Polana Szymoszkowa Station

Polana Szymoszkowa is the perfect ski station for families. Children only beginning their skiing adventures will feel safe under the watchful eye of instructors in the skiing and snowboarding preschool. It welcomes all children aged 4-12. Adults can also take skiing lessons with instructors in Polana Szymoszkowa. Parents will spend some exciting time skiing.

Polana Szymoszkowa is one of the most popular ski stations in Zakopane. It gets pretty crowded quite early in the morning, and this is the worst time to try to park your car. But it is possible - there are plenty of parking spaces available around the bottom station. You can also drive to the upper station of the large ski lift. The slope gets most crowded at Christmas (both Christian and Orthodox) and a little less during the school winter holidays. We recommend starting skiing around lunchtime as most of the children leave the slopes, and its gets a little less crowded around the ski lifts. This rule, however, does not hold true at weekends. On Saturdays and Sundays, Szymoszkowa bursts with life until sunset. After dark, the slope boasts good artificial illumination. You can then almost always ski without crowds or queues.

Polana Szymoszkowa is not a difficult slope. The piste at the small ski lift is child’s play and can be a little boring for any good skier. But it is a good place to practice. It is wide and very flat. It has an area of 400 metres and is only 60 m in difference in elevation (with an average inclination of 10%), making it the perfect place for any beginner skier or snowboarder. What’s even more important is that even this small piste boasts a chairlift rather than a T-bar. You can be sure that you will use your energy to learn how to ski and not to climb up the slope.

The long piste at the large ski lift at Polana Szymoszkowa actually consists of two completely different routes. But you must start by getting off the lift. At Szymoszkowa, you do not get off by skiing straight down, but you must wait for the chair to turn left. You get off the lift sidewise… and this is where the horror for many beginner snowboarders begins. The slope at the upper station of the lift is quite steep, and if it is crowded, many snowboarders fasten their boards right at the chairlift itself, either because they do not know how or cannot be bothered to move a little farther away. Many people fall over when trying to get off the lift. Beginner snowboarders will find it easiest to get off the lift without problems if they sit in the seat located on the far right.

The first section of the piste is difficult and very steep. On warmer days, moguls are not a rare sight, making the piste quite uncomfortable. The more beginner skiers and snowboarders there are on the slope, the more moguls appear, as many less skilled slope users ski with an uphill stem. However, the initial steep slope is quire short. The piste is still considered difficult down to the middle section. Later on, it becomes much more flat. If you lose speed from the initial part of the slope too quickly, towards the end of the flat section you might not have enough „steam” to continue. This is especially likely to happen when the snow is wet and very loose.

Polana Szymoszkowa has a few clear advantages. It is the longest slope in Zakopane. You can therefore pop out for two or even three rides in between other activities or at night. It is a family-oriented ski station - allowing both parents and children to have plenty of fun. It does not require very advanced skills. Sadly, there is no snow park here, which may make it a bit less interesting for demanding snowboarders.

Both at the top and at the bottom of the slope, you can visit some bars and restaurants. Polana Szymoszkowa also offers ski and snowboard rental services and schools.

A day pass in the peak season costs PLN 90. It is more expensive around Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It gets cheaper after 3 March (PLN 80, but the lift is only open until 6 p.m.)
